When I was painting this iris, it reminded me of a ballerina reaching toward the sky. Each petal was painted with a harmonic blend of blues, aquas and mauves. The same tones were repeated in deeper values on the turns of the petals and the cast shadows. The air brushed background has soft transitions which allow the focus to remain on the Iris Ballerina.
