One of my Mom's favorite flowers is the calla lily. When we were growing
up in Wisconsin, we had a large lilac bush in our backyard which gave
us fragrant blooms each spring. I thought the combination of the tall
bell-shaped calla lily and the graceful oval shape of the lilac would
make a beautiful combination.
The calla lilies are glazed with warm tones to create the slender
shapes. The computer monitor doesn't pick up all the delicate nuances.
You'll just have to see it in person. I used a combination of warm
and cool greens to paint the leaves, and surrounded the flowers with
a rich dark background of greens, mauves, and blues. This value contrast
makes the flowers really pop.
