Biography

The award-winning California artist's work expresses her passion for landscape, floral and wildlife themes, and for the process of painting itself. Original paintings, limited edition giclée prints, posters, art instruction books, photographs and puzzles are available through this web site.

Whether working in oils, acrylics, or watercolors, Hansen paints with an eye for dramatic color, organic line and the eternal dance of light and shadow. Those who collect her work admire her ability to capture the essence of nature in a unique way.

Hansen has written two art instruction books, and co-authored additional books and painting kits for Walter Foster Publishers. An art instruction video by Hansen illustrating beginning watercolor techniques is available. As an author and teacher, she encourages her students to express themselves through art.

Her work has been featured in several books and magazines, and graces numerous product lines for the art, gift and stationery industries.

One of her paintings, Calla Lilies and Lilacs, received an award from the National Arts Program which was sponsored by the Leonard W. E. Andrews Foundation of Philadelphia.

Serenity, one of her landscape paintings, was included in Painting Great Pictures from Photographs, a David and Charles book published by Quarto Publishing in England.

RSVP, The Directory of Illustration and Design, selected one of Hansen's paintings for exhibition at the New York Society of Illustrators' Main Gallery in New York City. This extremely popular annual illustration competition received almost nine hundred submissions from all parts of the United States, as well as Canada, Germany, Japan, Mexico and South Korea.

Her original paintings continue to be collected by individuals and corporations worldwide. Hansen also accepts commissioned work. To see examples of her commissioned paintings, click here .

In Her Own Words

My art career began at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. While working as an Administrative Assistant for the Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts, I visited the art studios and decided to take my first art class in 1975. Those first brush strokes were inspiring to me. I still have my first two paintings. It was so exciting to see something I had created. After moving to California, I received an Associate Degree in Art.

Paintings in my collection portray ocean scenes, inviting garden walks, unique wildlife images, and floral designs. Through my business, Creative Art and Design Studio, I teach workshops, consult with businesses and schools, and jury art shows.

It is my sincere hope that you will discover and enjoy my love of color, organic shapes, and the wonderful effects of light and shadow. Come and enjoy nature through my eyes!
